A community group has made a heartfelt appeal for others to get behind the idea of homegrown and handmade. Narooma and District Lions Club member Cathy Coventry wants to see the Dalmeny “Meet the Makers Markets” doing a roaring trade.
The next market is on Sunday, February 12, as always on the second Sunday every month and located inside the Dalmeny Community Hall and outside next to the tennis courts. Local markets are now also held in Tilba, Bermagui and Moruya.
“I need to get the word out there and get more stalls and customers coming to these markets or our idea of supporting small, local, homegrown and handmade is going down the drain,” Ms Coventry said. “That would be such a shame, as Narooma/Dalmeny needs these community events.”
The "Meet the Makers Markets" came from an idea of getting the community together and supporting local home businesses, to make accessible, fresh, quality goods and not imported or mass-produced inferior goods.
“We have a vision of becoming a regular meeting place for locals and visitors to our area, while providing a service that is much needed,” Mrs Coventry said. “To do this we need locals and visitors to come to these markets to see what we are about.
“In doing so, we will grow into a successful event, which will in turn assist various groups, clubs and people in our Narooma District Lions Club area.”
The Narooma and District Lions Club would love to hear from new stallholders and if anyone out there does face painting or is a busker, so please call Cathy Coventry on 0418 420 334.
In an effort to increase visitation, she has set up an Instagram page and a Facebook page under name "Dalmeny Meet The Makers Market".
“I have put articles on all the media and markets magazines and websites as well as all radio station community pages and am about to put it on Australian Tourism Data Warehouse, which will then go to various sites like Destination NSW and visitnsw.com etc.”
