Eurobodalla Shire Council, in partnership with Clean Up Australia, is calling for volunteers to take part in the nation’s largest community-based environmental event on Sunday, March 5.
Registrations are now open for Clean Up Australia Day, which every year inspires hundreds of Eurobodalla residents to take to our parks, beaches, bushland and streets to clean up the local environment on the first Sunday in March.
Last year 305 Eurobodalla community volunteers and students from 12 local schools participated in the event, collecting about 68.5 cubic metres of rubbish at 49 sites.
The most common items were cigarette butts, food wrappers and recyclable items such as drink containers.
Eurobodalla’s Clean Up Australia project officer Maree Cadman said it was easy to register clean-up sites.
“You can register places that are important to you like walking tracks, parks, beaches and local streets, or if you are unsure of where to clean up I can help you select a site,” she said.
“Alternatively, if you don’t want to register a site yourself, you can join an existing group. It’s a great way to meet other people in your community.
“We provide all equipment on the day and organise for the rubbish to be removed.”
So far, there are 20 sites registered in Eurobodalla, from Long Beach to Narooma.
Those unable to take part on March 5 can still be involved by registering to clean up on an alternative day.
