Round 12 took Narooma teams to Tathra which coaches judged as crucial deciders running into Finals Footy.
With Tathra hosting only 7’s, 8’s, 9’s Mod girls, 12’s and 14’s the Minis enjoyed a 9.30 kickoff and Eddies Red U7’s turned up keen to impress.
Tathra had them on the back foot putting in three early tries but these little champions never give in and finished slightly on top with Laila Rapley getting Eddies ‘Milo Award’ for a standout performance on the day.
Rob’s U8’s were impressive and dominant on the day in a great game where Joel Constable was at his best, closely followed by Tommy McDonald taking it to the Sea Eagles with hard hitting attack and solid defence.
Clayton Bailey led the charge in Brendon’s U9’s with massive hit-ups but Tathra were equal to the challenge finishing in an even result for both teams.
Mod Girls had supporters on edge to the final seconds with a ‘nail biter’ encounter that saw both teams swapping the lead. Our girls not use to being contained had to work hard putting in a try with 6 minutes to go to equal Tathra 18-18 to draw the game. Halle Constable was awarded ‘Player of the Round’.
The next two games were sensational. U12’s giving their very best, solid in defence and always dangerous in attack. Half time came with Narooma in front 22-10 after a try by Tathra right on the bell.
Second half saw Devils gain control with Tathra unable to contain our boys running out winners 38-22. Ethan Griffiths was a power house in defence and attack getting the nod for best on the day.
The day finished with U14’s and this game had it all. Both teams had dominated their oppositions in past games so it was to be a real test of where they stood heading to the finals.
Narooma took an early hit with Tathra busting their defence and putting first points on the board. Devils hit back with two tries going to the break in front 10-6. Second half saw a determined effort from Narooma to totally dominate, ending in a great win 38 to 6.
Craig was elated by this result praising all boys for stepping up but gave Ryan Rowley top honours for his outstanding performance on the day. Another great day for Junior Devil teams, next week again playing away against Eden.
