The oral health team from Batemans Bay and Moruya hospitals have identified Dental Health Week as an opportune time to promote the importance of oral health within the hospital setting.
And as such, the team is providing toothbrushes, toothpaste, floss, water bottle and oral health education resources to all patients being admitted to hospital in the Eurobodalla during the week. A dental health display at the reception counter at each hospital has also been created.
Moruya Hospital patient Dene Appleby of Tuross Head was pleasantly surprised to receive his oral health package upon his admission.
“It’s a great idea,” Mr Appleby said, saying he would be brushing and flossing after each meal.
Dentist Dr Aravinthan S. Bharathy said about 40 packs had been handed out at each hospital so far.
“It’s sending a message about the importance of oral health awareness among the population and how important oral health is for general health too,” he said.
