Moruya Sharks steal big show as Roosters bag three grand finals

The Moruya Sharks ended hopes of Bega rounding out all four senior premierships, knocking over the top grade 24-14 during the 2016 Group 16 grand final.

The win for the Sharks is the second senior premiership on the trot after taking out the coveted title in 2015 to the same opponents.

However, it wasn’t all bad for the Bega Roosters, winning all three earlier grades.

The league-tag Bega Chicks made great use of gaps to overcome the Narooma She-Devils 14-6 in the opening fixture on Sunday.

Madison Parbery was named woman of the match for her incisive runs and an excellent defensive display against the She-Devils.

The under 18s went the way of the tri-colours 30-12 after an extended arm-wrestle with the Merimbula-Pambula Bulldogs.

The Dogs werre well in the competition until middle stages of the second half when energy levels seemed to drop and the Roosters started running rampant into the dying stages.

Man of the match was Bega’s Declan Bower-Scott.

The reserve grade fixture was a massively physical contest with two huge forward packs muscling out control of the middle for their respective teams.

The Blue Heelers pushed their hosts to the limit, but the Roosters were able to come home strong and win 28-14.

The headline act was a tense battle with the Roosters holding down an 8-0 lead at the break.

The immense crowd was expecting the explosive plays from the Moruya Sharks they had provided all year and the fireworks came early in the second half.

Jake Clarke was a gun to fire a double for the visitors, while Mick Weyman was named man of the match running out a strong show in the front lines.
