Mayor opens new expanded kitchen area at Narooma Men’s Shed

The members of the Narooma Men's Shed were happy to welcome Eurobodalla Shire mayor Liz Innes to their rented premises in Glass House Rocks Road on Tuesday., August 15.

The occasion was the opening of the newly decorated kitchen and recreation area. This space has allowed members more flexibility to meet, interact and generally “chill out” with other members.

A paint job, an enlargement of space, and a redesign of the cooking area is the basis of the change.

This has worked well with expanded member numbers, and the running of a Healthy Foods Program.

After the official opening the facility, Ms Innes was treated to a meal cooked by members, consisting of chicken Masala, vegetarian curry, and beef Bourguignon.

The Healthy Foods Program was begun in 2016, and while not fully funded as yet for 2017, has continued this year.

The aim of the program has been to show members that healthy meals can be cooked easily. Aspects such as age, marital status, ability and mobility should not inhibit anyone from eating healthily.

The program runs fortnightly on Tuesdays, with a full meal one Tuesday, and a soup day a fortnight later. A variety of dishes are cooked, with “take-homers” for those unable to cook often for themselves.

Recipes and methods are available to members to enable them to use in future times at home.

The Narooma Men's Shed is still searching for permanent space and facilities, and is working with the Eurobodalla Shire Council and NSW Government agencies to achieve this aim.

For information about the Narooma Men's Shed, please contact Wal Sheehan on 0417 046 921, or drop in and visit any Tuesday or Thursday, between 10am and 2pm.
