Being Father’s Day, several father-son combos turned up for our last swim for the season. A cool wind with an outgoing tide had Course Master Jason Hextel decide on a drift from Apex Park boat ramp around the bends and back to Bar Beach South.
Following the father-son theme, “old bull-young bull”, Gene “chopper” Willis took off from the pack. Up and around the bend before anyone noticed. And duly copped a speeding fine from Fine Master Brent Lockton for racing!
It was back to Numnutz HQ at O’Brien’s Pub and our traditional End of Season full hot cooked breakfast by Scott at the Raw Prawn Bistro.
Annual awards were presented, with Numnut of the Year going to Chris Black. 100 percenters this year were Graeme Spicer and Steve Dobson swimming every week through the winter, closely followed by Glen Bywater and Mark “Podge” Rogerson. The usual card game ‘chase the ace’ followed, this time won by Chris, second win for the day!
Next up is the Numnutz end of season trip away to the National Winter Swimming Championships at the Gold Coast, where the Nutz will representing Narooma competing with clubs from all over Australia. Previously the boys have toured to Wagga, Newcastle, Gold Coast, Sydney and Perth.
And finally a reminder that the annual Numnutz Summer Swim and Christmas Party will be on again this year on Saturday, December 16, so keep that day free. Time and tides to be advised, see you all there.
