Eurobodalla violinist Vincent Edwards and pianist Bill Hawkey are still making music.
The duo have put together a program including works by Mozart, Paganini, Part, Dvorak, Kreisler and Franck for a free twilight concert at St Paul’s Anglican Church, Narooma on Thursday, September 21.
The pair spent many years working together at the Canberra School of Music.
After leaving his position as principal viola with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, Vincent Edwards became head of strings at the CSM while also performing with the Canberra Symphony Orchestra for many years as concertmaster and principal viola.
Bill Hawkey’s musical career began in New Zealand as a pianist, organist and choral conductor, which led to a teaching position with the Canterbury University School of Music.
In 1979, after a short stint in Adelaide, he took up the position of Deputy Director of the Canberra School of Music, where he and Edwards forged a long professional partnership.
After retiring as Professor and Director of Music at the Australian National University, Hawkey moved to Akolele, and was delighted to discover Edwards had moved to Tathra.
Both Edwards and Hawkey are still teaching and performing.
