The Narooma and Bermagui Historical Societies are teaming up with Montreal Goldfield Management Committee to look into one of the South Coast’s great unsolved mysteries
In 1880, five men disappeared – including just arrived government surveyor Lamont Young – and their bodies never found.
Their only remains were a boat found near the area now called Mystery Bay.
To join in the great mystery solving event, on Sunday, September 17, meet at the Bermagui Headland (between Horseshoe Bay and the entrance to Bermagui River) for a prompt 10am start.
A car is essential and car pooling advisable. There will be four stops, including Bermagui and Mystery Bay, with 20-30 minutes at each, where various people will outline evidence and observations of the time. We will also be joined by descendants of some of the missing men.
Bring your own lunch and maybe a chair for lunchtime.
