Narooma Mens Bowls
Sunday. 17-09-2017. There were 24 (4 rinks triples) players for the afternoon mixed Joes special social bowls with the winners being Jan Rapkins, Pat Wood & John Downie, 20 shots over, Betty & Sue Bender(shared a game), Kenny Burrows & Jean Voss 11.
A very proud bowler Bill Wilton, whose Grandson Tieg, a very good Rugby League player with the Narooma Red Devils, now with the Cronulla Sharks under 20s has been selected for the Junior Australian Kangaroos.
Wednesday 20-09-2017: Another great Wednesday attendance wise, 48 (8 rinks triples) bowlers nominated for the afternoon Maggsy draw matches. The winners of the afternoon were decided by lucky rinks, with 1st place going to Don Caldwell, Greg Riley & Kelly Hayward, with 25 shots, only just over, Allan Chisholm, Rod Holman & Peter Jones 23 shots. Runners-up were, Peter Dillon, Errol Coles & Brian Seaman, a lot of shots, over Col Armstrong, Jeff McCusker & Ray Gale, not nearly enough. The earliest resting toucher prize of the day went to Carl Lee with his resting toucher coming at 1258hrs.
Saturday 24-09-2017: A nice fine day, & still only 22 bowlers (4 rinks prs. & 1 triples) come along for the afternoon matches. The winners on the day were decided by the team with the highest winning margin, & the side to achieve that feat was, Col Armstrong, & Greg Ryan, 28 shots with a shot margin of 15, over John Downie & Peter Towend with 13 shots. Runners-up were Dennis Maggs & Brian Seaman, 26 shots & a margin of 13, over Graham Cummins & Ray Gale 13 shots. A lucky rink draw then carried out to select the winning skip to cut the deck of cards in an attempt to turn up the Joker & claim the $340 Jack-Pot, but was only able to come up with the 3 of spades, so another $20 is added to the Jack-Pot for a total of $360 next time and a few cards missing. So get your teams entered & boost our Saturday numbers.
Dalmeny Men
It was great to see 44 bowlers out on the greens on a sunny Monday afternoon with our usual swirling breeze with 1st man Ken organising the cards and with secret ends deciding the winners on 10 in visitors Chris Frew, Neville Behind and John English from the runners-up on 3 in Bob PD, Adams boy Ken and the other one son of Tom. No resting toucher nor the $237 jackpot was won. Wrong bias sinners included the redheaded boy Ralph, John English, Ex.PM Neil, punter Alan (2) and Steal Coulson and raffle prizes went to that big man again in Neville Also (2), Ralphie and John Oarley.
We were sorry to hear our Scarf-man Jack is still not travelling too well and is in Moruya Hospital that the one and only Jeff Soft-off is still in Bega hospital but looking forward to a visit from anyone going that way and who may be able to give his wife Jill a lift so she can visit.
32 Bowlers enjoyed the fine Thursday afternoon with little wind for a change and the lowest winning margin had the winners on 5 decided by 3 countbacks in Christine Foot-sen and Garry L-rentacar from the runners-up in Ray Endrod, Bluey Ralph and gospeller Bob with the resting toucher going to Garry and the $262 jackpot staying in the bag. Ex.PM Neil was the only wrong bias sinner and the raffle winners were Cheryl Badrim 3 times, thankfully sending it back twice for Graham or Brett, Nan Maureen, Golden Arches Alan, Cheryl’s other half, Richard and Garry continued winning.
In the first round of the mixed pairs championships played earlier Hook-ara Wort and Punter Alan up against Barbara Stab and Chef Keith saw Barb/Keith get away to lead 5/1 after 4 ends but stayed there to be 5/8 down at the 9th end, 8/13 down at the 16th, 10/20 down at the 20th before going down to Barb and Alan 14/25 at the 24th end.
Matches played this weekend saw Barb/Alan against the Footsen couple, Christine and Finn and had a great start leading 11/- at the 5th end, 18/1 at the 10th before Chris and Finn came back to be only 22/9 down at the 16th where Alan and Barb had a rest but held on to win 25/18 at the 25th.
Marg Laker and Graham or Brett teamed well against Gail Fer-heaven and Ex.PM Neil to lead 10/1 at the 5th but slowed down to only lead 15/6 at the 11th and 22/14 at the 19th and 4/3 over the last 6 ends to win 26/17 at the 25th.
Dine-back Brooker and Packman Ace had a close match against the Silver-Jones, Lyn and Chris leading 5/4 at the 6th before evening up 9-all at the 11th, 15-all at the 18th, 19-all at the 21st , going on to lead by 2 at the 23rd before Chris and Lyn scored 3/- to win 22/21 at the 25th.
Kath Whiskey-an and Buzz Breust had strong opposition in the Smith couple, Jan and Bernie, although leading early 5/- at the 2nd, 11/6 at the 8th, 18/9 at the 15th before Jan and Bernie got into gear to lead 20/19 at the 20th, down again by 2 at the 22nd before coming home strongly 4/- to win 24/22 at the 25th. Well done all on the keen and close competition and we look forward to some more of the same next weekend.
Dalmeny Women
We had a swirling nor-westerly to contend with when we played the final of the drawn Pairs and several social games on the scenic Dalmeny greens.
The winners of the Drawn Pairs for 2017 were the two Lyns, Lyn Dunbar and Lyn Goldsmith with runners-up Gail Farrell and Barbara Pearce. It was a good competition, played with panache. The winners of the day were Chris Hansen and Janette Jones, with Gabby Cheel, Maureen Nankervis and Margaret Carpenter as runners-up. Barbara Wort was closest to the spider. Congratulations to all bowlers for persevering in tough conditions.
Chris Hansen and Margaret carpenter took home the raffle prizes. The Mixed Pairs are in progress and the next diary date is the Drawn Fours which begin on October 7th. There are plenty of fun things to do at the friendly club
