For those of us fortunate to be able to go away for our holiday, the problem of what to do about our family pets looms large.  Should you take them with you?  Would it be better to leave them behind for a few weeks?  Who will look after them whilst you are away?

Some of you will be fortunate enough to have family or friends who can care for your pet during your absence. If you don’t have this luxury, then now is the time to book a kennel or cattery.

Boarding facilities for cats and dogs in the Eurobodalla Shire are limited, with many visitors from out of town booking in early, so start ringing around now and hopefully you will get the placement you want for your pet.

If you decide to take the family dog on holiday with you, perhaps to a caravan park or camping ground, make sure that they are allowed into the style of accommodation you choose. And always keep your dog on lead in unfamiliar surroundings, so it doesn't get lost!

Another important thing to remember is that dogs are not allowed into National Parks. It may be possible to obtain permission from National Parks Rangers to drive through these areas, without stopping, so check this out before starting your journey.

While you are holidaying with your dog, watch out for other summer hazards such as the Paralysis tick, which can be deadly, and snakes out sunning themselves.  These can be hard to spot and aggressive if disturbed by a dog enjoying a good sniff!

Whatever holiday arrangements you choose, make sure that your pets are fully vaccinated and tick protected before you leave. If you take these precautions and make your arrangements early, the whole family will be able to relax and enjoy a wonderful holiday.
