The drumming band known as the Narooma Rhythm Hunters from Narooma Public School on Monday afternoon gave a special thank-you concert for their supporters.
It was an emotional concert for the youngsters who had just cleaned up at the Australian National Busking Competition finals held in Cooma earlier this month.
At the end of the concert, the students all thanked their music teacher Juanita Low who taught them how to drum on the African djembe drums.
Mrs Low said the students had learned the importance of giving thanks and so the thank-you concert was the most important to them.
“Music has incredible power to be calming and motivating at the same time,” she said.
The students ended the concert by standing up from their drums and singing the old ABBA standard “Thank-you for the Music”.
The students thanked Mrs Low personally.
“Thank you for for all you have done for us and so much more,” a young spokesperson said.
The students didn’t even drums to begin with and the town of Narooma and various groups stepped up to provide them with the necessary equipment and also to get them to the busking finals.
Monday’s concert was specially to thank all the supporters and tables with snacks had been laid out in the school hall.
Groups being thanked included Narooma Rotary and Quota clubs, the Dalmeny Deviates, Uniting Drop-in Centre and Narooma Floor Sanding, as well as individuals teacher Kristy Smith and Carl Low.
Each group and individual was thanked with a short speech and then played their own song. Afterwards the students and supporters had a chance to mingle and chat about the music.
