The NSW government has called for expressions of interest to design and construct a wave attenuator in Snug Cove as part of the $10 million Eden Safe Harbour Project.

Both fixed and floating attenuators will be considered. EOIs close January 19, 2018.
Minister for Transport and Infrastructure, and Bega MP, Andrew Constance, said the wave attenuator was a “game changer” for the Port of Eden and would open up new opportunities on and off the water.
“A wave attenuator will calm wave activity in the cove, providing a safer harbour for local and visiting vessels and improve the protection of existing maritime infrastructure,” he said.
“Providing a safer harbour will enhance Eden’s reputation as a safe boating destination which will stimulate local investment in the maritime and tourism sectors.
“I have been knocking on doors continuously to get this project started, and pleasingly we are now moving in the right direction to ensure Snug Cove will be a safe harbour,” he said.
Once completed, the wave attenuator and wharf extension would bring back vitality to Eden, which was fast becoming a first-class tourist destination, he said.
Minister for Lands and Forestry, Paul Toole, said the government was considering both fixed and floating wave attenuators to ensure the best solution for the Eden community.
“This is a very important project for the local community so it’s important we get it right,” Mr Toole said.
Touring the wharf precinct with Mr Toole in June, Mr Constance indicated his preference for a fixed attenuator, saying it was no use building something that would get washed away or damaged in the first big swell.
