A 42-year-old Ulladulla man was arrested at the international airport at about 8.30am..
The man, an alleged member of the Rebels OMCG, was taken to Mascot Police Station.
Shortly after the arrest, investigators executed a search warrant at a home at on McDonald Parade, Burrill Lake, where they seized items relevant to the investigation.
“In 2013 John Salafia was shot and killed at the front door of his Kings Point home,” NSW Police State Crime Command Homicide Squad Detective Chief Inspector Mark Henney said at a press conference in Ulladulla earlier today, November 24.
“The last few days saw a substantial phase in this investigation with the arrest of two men,” he said.
DCI Henney said the investigation was far from over.
“There are a number of other people who were involved who were present at the time of the murder, or assisted before and after the murder,” he said.
“This includes people who assisted in disposing of the vehicle used in the murder.”
The investigation will now focus on people connected to the murder, DCI Henney said.
“We know there are people out there in the community who have information about this murder,” he said.
“We continue to appeal to those people who may have been reluctant to come forward, to speak to police and provide information on this murder.”
DCI Henney said the Salafia family were receiving regular updates on the investigation and arrests.
“[The family] are very distraught and very happy there has been some breakthroughs in the investigation,” he said.
Mr Salafia was shot at point-blank range on Sunday, June 23, 2013 on the front doorstep of his home, shortly after he returned home from the movies with his family.
Two of his children were asleep inside the house at the time.
Police and emergency services were called to the home on Kings Point Drive at 10.30pm following reports of a shooting.
On arrival, officers located the body of the 38-year-old at the front door of his home.
Mr Salafia had been shot in the head and chest.
