Two teams from the High School traveled north on Wednesday, November 22, to participate in a gala day preceding the three World Cup matches.
The U14s side were undefeated on the day, while the U16s won one of their three games.
PDHPE teacher Glenn Hall had been training with the girls for six weeks to prepare them for the event, but an injury prevented him from traveling with the team.
Narooma High teacher Sonya Reed said the U16s were shocked at the opponents they would have to play.
“When the bus pulled up, our under 16s said they didn’t want to get off,” she said. “They saw how big the girls from Sydney were, and they decided they’d prefer to go shopping.”
While the matches were important, Mrs Reed said the opportunity to watch elite rugby league was too good to pass up.
“The girls got to watch Cook Islands v England, and then Australia v Canada,” she said.
The highlight of the day was the opportunity to lead the Jillaroos on to the stadium prior to their game against Canada.
The girls then stood next to the team while the two countries’ national anthems were played.
