The elements came together for the Dalmeny Boardriders (DBR) on Sunday, with the waves, weather and a big crowd all showing up at Yabbara Beach for the club’s final competition day of the year.

After Saturday’s big downpour and more rain on Monday, it was pure luck that Sunday turned out to be perfect South Coast day.
None were happier about the lack of rain, light winds and strong NE swell than the DBR members who put on a great show for the over 100 spectators who lined the grassy hill of Yabbara Point.
Matt Hoar and Ray Lawrence continued their dominance of the Open mens and Longboard divisions, taking the win in the final of each division respectively.
Mark Anderson, who has had some solid results throughout the season, took out the Over 45’s. Danielle Campbell, had a busy day taking out the Open women’s and also competing in the Longboards.
This year the juniors have shown that competitive surfing in Eurobodalla has a brilliant future. Tommy Driscoll will certainly be one to keep an eye on, as the 17-year-old moves up the ranks.
Tommy not only won the Under 18’s, but also had a narrow second place finish in the final of the Open mens, losing to Matt Hoar by a slim 0.30.
Sandy Loudoun made huge gains in her abilities this year and was treated to a win in the final of the Under 18 girls. Valentino Guseli, who swapped his snowboard for a his surfboard, took out the Under 13 boys and Asher Hoar won the Micro Groms.
While spectators were treated to a great day of excellent surfing, but it was a fly-over from an RAAF F-18 squadron and a visit from Santa, who arrived on an IRB, that was the highlight for some of the younger onlookers.
The Dalmeny Boardriders will return to competition after the Christmas break on Sunday, February 4.
