Narooma police do know the dark blue Mitsubishi Lancer was stolen from Thomson Parade in Dalmeny sometime between 8.30pm on Sunday, December 10 and 7.30am the following morning.
Then an alert walker at 11am on Monday noticed the car at the base of 6-metre cliff at Mummaga headland just off McMillan Crescent.
Police say the car may have gone over sometime overnight on Sunday but neighbours in the area did not hear anything. Other walkers probably also walked past earlier on Monday morning but did not notice the car at the base of the cliffs.
While it is unclear whether anyone was in the car when it first hit bushes at the top of cliff and then spun around to slide read-end first down the relatively steep cliff face, indications were that someone was inside.
There were however no signs of blood or any injury, although the car was being towed to be forensically tested.
The car was brought back to the top of cliff by a crane under the watchful eye of the Dalmeny RFS brigade on scene to contain any fluid spills.
Anyone with information about the theft of the vehicle or how and when it slid down the cliff, should please call Narooma police on 4476 2044 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
