Club president Ben Bate said a window on the upstairs balcony was smashed and the thieves took drinks from the canteen and a new iPad used for rosters but most importantly the $800 radios and chargers from the radio room.
“It is very disappointing that a community facility would be targeted by these people and right when we are coming up to the busiest time of year,” Mr Bate said.
Thankfully the club has been able to borrow radios from the Bermagui surf club as the eight-hour patrols begin this weekend. A claim will be lodged with its insurance company.
Mr Bate said it was important to note that these radios were specially programmed for use by NSW surf life saving club frequencies only and so were useless for any other purpose.
Police had come to collect forensic evidence, the window has been repaired and the club is reviewing its security measures, including replacing bars on the windows that had been removed to allow the Nippers on the balcony to be fed from the kitchen.
A spate of thefts around Narooma include the Mitsubishi Lancer that was stolen from Thomson Parade, Dalmeny overnight on Sunday and then found at the bottom of cliff on Mummaga headland on Monday.
Meanwhile, unknown persons broke into a Narooma motel restaurant between 9pm Sunday, December 10 and 7am Monday stealing a cash box and cash. Crime scene officers collected forensic evidence.
And then a wheelie bin was used to gain entry through a top-floor window to a Forsters Bay Road, Narooma house with jewellery and a handbag stolen. A wallet meanwhile was stolen from a kitchen inside a Davison Street, Narooma house between 4.30pm on Wednesday, December 6 and 7am on Thursday.
The owners of a house on Attunga Street, Dalmeny were also devastated to find many of their special solar-powered Christmas lights had been stolen overnight on Wednesday, December 6.
Anyone with information about these thefts can contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or Narooma police on 4476 2044.
