The timber mill was donated by the Narooma Sporting and Services Club to the Narooma Woodies at a cost of $4800.
This portable mill will allow the Narooma Woodies to “slab” tree trunks and turn them into all sorts of timber goodies.
Narooma Sporting and Services Club general manager Tony Casu said the Narooma Woodies group brought community members together.
“With the social interaction that the Woodies provide, with the training and working on this type of equipment, it helps make a strong community even stronger,” Mr Casu said.
With 40 per cent of the Eurobodalla Shire’s population aged over 60 years, and approximately 25 per cent of Narooma residents living alone, anyone group that encourages interactions should be supported.
“Anecdotal data indicates that increased social interactions have a positive impact on an individual’s mental health and well-being,” Mr Casu said. “This is another example of the type of community support that the Narooma Sporting and Services Club gets behind.
“These small groups that can make a big impact on the residents of the Narooma community are run by volunteers who help the local community to grow stronger.
“The Narooma Woodies do a lot of charity work through restoring timber items, or making and donating toys for charity organisations, along with taking on bigger projects from time to time.”
