The funding will enable the construction of a storage facility for 24-hour emergency rescue vessels and equipment at the Narooma surf club.

“All our surf life saving clubs do immensely important work, saving lives and providing opportunities for people of all ages to get fit and healthy, so I am pleased to see Narooma Surf Life Saving Club receive this funding,”  Mr Constance said.

“The aim of this program is to increase the availability, standard and quality of surf life saving clubs in NSW for the benefit of their members and the wider community,” Mr Constance said.

“The NSW Government wants to make the work of lifesavers as easy as possible – we can’t control the water but we can improve facilities like this to ensure they have better access to lifesaving equipment.

“It is a great pleasure to able to advocate on behalf of our community and to see results like this for Narooma residents and our many visitors.”

Narooma Surf Life Saving Club president Ben Bate said this was fantastic news for the Narooma surf club.

He said after the great disappointment of the club being being broken into last week and valuable equipment being stolen, this was just the boost the club volunteers needed. 

“We have seen such huge growth in the club in the last five years and were running desperately short of room,” Mr Bate said.

“Our aim will be to have the storage facility completed in early 2018 and it will house all our emergency response equipment.

“Mr Constance has been very encouraging and kept in contact while we went through the approval process with the Eurobodalla Shire Council and State Government,  to now be able to move ahead with construction thanks to this grant is a great relief.

“On behalf of all our members I would like to acknowledge and thank Mr Constance, who has always been a great supporter and shown a strong interest in surf life saving here on the South Coast.”.
