Violet Rose Morton is the first baby of 2018 to be born at a Eurobodalla shire hospital – more than two weeks ahead of time.
Bridie Miller and Danial Morton became proud parents to Violet at Moruya District Hospital at 4:50am on New Year’s Day.
The couple, who have links to Armidale and Goulburn, expressed gratitude to those working at Moruya District Hospital, thanking maternity staff for their help throughout the birth of their daughter.
Ms Miller, of Batemans Bay, said she went unexpectedly into labour on New Year’s eve.
Violet was not due until January 16, but Ms Miller is not complaining, despite a challenging labour.
“It was a pretty tough one,” she told the Bay Post/Moruya Examiner.
Mr Morton was there to help her through.
“He got to hold her after,” Ms Miller said.
Proud big sister is Gracie can’t wait to see Violet today, January 3.
“She wants to meet her; she is excited,” Ms Miller said.
Ms Miller said she chose Violet and Rose as her new baby’s names as she loved flowers.
She hopes to breastfeed and said her little one was going well.
