Thursday’s warm and humid weather saw 34 bowlers on the rinks where on a day of some very high scoring the lowest winning margin of 6 decided the winners in Ex.PM Neil, Lois Greg or Mac and Stroke Cameron from those on 13 in the Punters Judy and Alan and Hook-ara Wort. Mayoress Olwyn took out the resting toucher but the $1112 jackpot was not won while the wrong-bias sinners included the both Punters, Paul Vander-hoist, Neil and the son of our rent-a- car man Garry. The raffle winners were Mayor Brian, Punter Judy, gospeller Bob, organiser Marg Ponder, Ian East-off and Dipper Ron.
Friday afternoon saw a great crowd at Broulee for the funeral of one of the club’s great characters in our Jeffery Loudon AKA the Toad and as recorded by me as Jeff Soft-off. He was an expert floor and wall tiler coming to do a job at one of Narooma’s the motels some 40-odd years ago and left his workmanship mark in many of our homes and businesses ever since. He was truly a great friend, mate and fellow supporter of St. George Rugby League and our club and players in the weekly, championship and pennant bowling events always setting his own pace, never to be rushed, together with his work with the Dalmeny Deviates and with the volunteer workers on the Dalmeny-Narooma shared pathway. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him and our thoughts and condolences go out to his wife Jill and his family of children, grand -children and great grand-children. Vale Jeffery, me ole china, you were one of a kind.
Sixteen Friday twilight bowlers enjoyed a warm overcast night of bowls with the winners being Fighting Frank, Steal Forest and Postman Joe from the runners-up in the Goose aided by his grand-son Jaron and partner Nicola. The resting toucher went off to Graham or Brett and the Bodalla Hippie Sticks prize went to the Sienna couple Marg and Don. Many thanks to our Dipper Ron who continues to run our twilights so well with the backing of the men’s bowls committee who guarantee our prize monies each week also to our third prize sponsors in the Bodalla Hippie Sticks. Friday’s twilight bowling is open to all over the age of 12, weather permitting, so get your names in early by 4.45pm Friday please to help organiser Dipper Ron with the cards and if your name is down and you can’t make it, ring the club, earliest please. Have a happy and healthy New Year.
Narooma Men
Saturday. 30-12- 2017. The last Saturday of the year and we had one of the best roll-ups of the year, 32 nominations (8 rinks of pairs). The winners on the day were decided by the team with the highest winning margin & that team was Jeff McCusker & Gordon Foster (welcome back Gordon) scoring 25 shots & a shot margin of 13 over Peter Hiscox & Peter Jones 12 shots. Runners-up were Tony Palmer & Keith Bowater, 23 shots, a shot margin of 8, over Alan Chisholm & Jon Voytas 15 shots. A lucky rink draw was carried out to determine who the winning skip on that rink would be to cut the deck of cards in an attempt to turn up the Joker & claim the $360 Jackpot, but was only able to come up with 4 of hearts, so next time the Jackpot will be worth $380. So get your teams entered.
Sunday. 31-12- 2017. A rather chilly New Year’s Eve, & the year’s final bowls matches, saw an all ladies win with the highest winning score. Those ladies were skipped by Merrie Downie, 2nd was Mavis Hardy & lead, Aurelia Robinson. They had a 1 shot win 19 shots to 18. Make sure all you Sunday Joes Special mixed bowler front up again in those magnificent numbers you did last year.
