All Eurobodalla beaches except Surf Beach at Batemans Bay are closed to beachgoers as a strong swell up to 4 metres lashes the coast.
Lifeguarding Services Australia has advised beachgoers to swim at a patrolled beach and to follow the directions of lifeguards.
Stan Wall from Lifeguarding Services Australia, Eurobodalla said four or five boogie boarders had to be assisted in the big surf at Dalmeny main beach on Wednesday, January 17.
“We are asking people to stay away from all beaches, patrolled and unpatrolled, because it’s just so dangerous,” Mr Wall said.
The surf appeared to be much bigger than currently listed on weather services and apps, with Mr Wall also estimating it to be around 4 metres.
Conditions are dangerous for rock fishing, with anglers advised to avoid coastal rock platforms exposed to the ocean and seek a safe location that is sheltered from the surf.
Lifeguards expect winds to pick up during the day and will continue to monitor conditions and update swimmers. Conditions will be assessed again tomorrow.
