The 121st annual Cobargo Show is hosted by the Cobargo Agriculture, Pastoral and Horticultural Society and will be held on February 10 and 11 at the Cobargo Showgrounds.
The event continues to grow and this year the camp drafting event has been extended over two days due to popularity.
“We have over 60 entries, so we decided to break it into heats and hold it for the first time over two nights,” Cobargo Show publicity officer Rebecca Miller said.
Other popular events over the weekend include the rodeo, wood chopping and kid’s entertainment such as the petting zoo and calf rides.
Ms Miller said the Cobargo Show captured the personality of Cobargo and the people in the area.
“It’s a really great show packed with entertainment, you could sit there from midday to midnight and there would always be something there to catch your attention,” she said.
“Cobargo people really pride themselves on homegrown entertainment, it’s just a really good weekend that shows off what our town is all about.”
A country show wouldn’t be complete without a display of the regions finest produce and talent, and judging will take place in the Showground pavilion to determine the top fruit and vegetables, dishes, desserts and arts and crafts.
Other judging over the weekend includes dairy and beef cattle, poultry, equestrian ring events, chainsaw and rodeo events.
Most entries to the show open on Monday February 5 and close on Friday February 9. More details on how to enter competitions and exhibit at the Cobargo Show are available on their website.
Other fun on the weekend includes lawnmower racing, grass skiing, wheelie bin races, wife carrying and pie eating competitions.
The face of this year’s show is Sally Hoyer, who was named Cobargo Showgirl for 2018 by the Cobargo AP&H Society at a showgirl presentation and Christmas supper dance late last year.
Six prospective showgirls attended interviews and afternoon tea at Richard and June Tarlinton's property in Wandella. The two senior and four junior contestants all interviewed to a high standard, making the judges decision difficult.
Ms Hoyer was awarded the role at a formal presentation and supper was held at the Cobargo School of Arts Hall where Claudia Bartlett was also crowned Junior Showgirl for this year’s show.
Ms Hoyer’s work doesn’t finish there. In March this year, she will represent the Cobargo Show at the zone final in Bungendore.
