The annual event gets a big boost this year thanks Club Narooma coming on board with $2500 sponsorship.
The Club Narooma Seniors Tennis Tournament last year attracted 100 senior players over the age of 35, coming from around the region and NSW. This year participation was expected to be even greater.
Tennis club president Martin Thackray welcomed the support and the tournament provided a boost for the town’s tourism.
“It attracts new people to the town and once they have seen what the town is all about, they might stay or come back for a holiday,” Mr Thackray said.
Club Narooma general manager Tony Casu played in the tournament last year, and while he did not win his match, he was proud of that ace that he served.
Mr Casu said Club Narooma was keen to sponsor the event as it potentially attracted a couple of hundred people, being both the tennis players and their partners and families, to Narooma at what typically was a slower time for visitor numbers.
“It brings people to town and Club Narooma is all about supporting the town and events that bring people to town and boost our tourism,” he said. “Our board jumped at the opportunity to sponsor this great event.”
There are singles, doubles and mixed games taking place on March 9, 10 and 11 at the Narooma tennis courts behind Bill Smyth Oval.
Club Narooma will host welcome drinks on Friday evening and then there will also be a trivia night on Saturday, followed by a barbecue and presentation at the tennis courts on Sunday.
It’s not too late to register to play and inquiries should be directed to Brian Carmichael on 4473 6669 or 0499 736 669 or brian.carmichael@bigpond.com by Monday, February 26.
