Players do battle in Club Narooma Seniors Tennis Tournament

The 2018 Club Narooma Seniors Tennis Tournament, held last Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Narooma and Dalmeny Tennis clubs, saw players come from as far away as Wollongong, Cooma, Merimbula, Sale and the ACT.

More than 100 players competed in the 3-day round-robin tournament for players aged over 35 years.

Narooma turned on glorious autumn weather for all three days with spectators enjoying an impressive display of tennis across all sessions.

In Mens Singles, Merimbula’s Dennis Love and Dapto’s Brian Clegg each won their groups.

Love then defeated Clegg in a playoff to take the title.

Karen Tritton from Moruya Heads took out the Women’s Singles and later teamed with Tomakin’s Marlene Adams to take out  their Women’s Doubles group.

Mens Doubles saw David Graham and Bob Morgan travel from Kiama to take out their division.

Gordon Sawtell and Garry McNally from Batemans Bay won their group to keep the local flag flying.

Gordon later teamed with Lorna Jackson to take out their division in the mixed.

Players from the ACT dominated many events.

May Howard from Wanniassa was virtually unstoppable, taking out three of the four events she entered, each with a different partner.

Kim Cahill and Pauline Downes won both their women’s doubles events, with Downes later teaming with Grant Woodbridge to collect the prize in their mixed.

Adrian Blackeby and Stephen Rodger edged out the Austinmer pair of Steve Marshall and Daryl Orr in Men’s Doubles.

Marshall and Orr later won their combined age men’s group on Sunday, with Marshall also taking out the combined mixed doubles as a scratch pairing with ACT’s Marg Sellwood.

Alan Pycroft and Geoff Cook from the Shoalhaven took out their men’s doubles section.

Barry Austin from Bermagui was certainly the “marathon man” of the tournament, competing in every event over the three-day weekend.
