A severe weather warning has been issued for vigorous winds over South East NSW on March 18.
Strong west to northwesterly winds will continue to batter the coast ahead of a cold front, expected to pass through the Far South Coast in the afternoon.
Damaging winds were forecast for much of the day, with the strongest winds expected in the early afternoon, according to the Bureau of Meterology.
Winds are expected to average 50 to 65km/h, with peak gusts exceeding 90km/h.
The Bureau predicts conditions to ease by the early evening.
The windy conditions, combined with temperatures in the high 30s, prompted a Total Fire Ban for the Far South Coast and parts of the state on Sunday.
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
- Move vehicles under cover or away from trees.
- Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.
- Keep at least 8 metres away from fallen power lines or objects that may be energised, such as fences.
- Report fallen power lines to either Ausgrid on 131 388, or Endeavour Energy on 131 003 or Essential Energy on 132 080, as shown on your power bill.
- For emergency help in floods and storms, ring your local SES Unit on 132 500.
