Clubs who register by April 19 have the added bonus of going into a draw to meet and spend time with an Aussie sports star, including Footballer and Socceroos player Chris Ikonomidis, Netballer and NSW Swifts vice-captain Paige Hadley, AFL player and Melbourne Football Club co-captain Jack Viney or the NRL’s Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs player Marcelo Montoya.
The winning clubs may choose to use the meet-and-greet opportunity as part of their fundraising activities.
"Sport for young people is an opportunity to learn many life skills that are invaluable in so many areas,” Ikonomidis said.
Good Sports is an Alcohol and Drug Foundation program and works with around 2600 clubs in NSW and more than 8000 clubs nation-wide.
The program aims to create safe and welcoming sporting environments by offering clubs the support they need to implement policies around alcohol management, smoking, illegal drugs, safe transport and in some states healthy eating and mental health.
“Sporting clubs across New South Wales are becoming healthier, stronger and increasing their success through Good Sports. We invite more clubs to join the program so they too, can benefit,” Alcohol and Drug Foundation NSW Manager Lisa Simone said.
“Good Sports provides clubs with free tools, resources and practical support to help increase the wellbeing of their members and build more inclusive club environments that strengthen community sport.”
Local sporting clubs say they are proud to be part of the Good Sports Program.
“We love Good Sports because it helps keep our club on the right track around providing a safe and healthy environment for our members and supporters,” Batemans Bay BMX Club member Nadine Crouch said.
