A club spokesperson said members, like all residents up and down the coast, were shocked and saddened to see the aftermath of the fires that engulfed Tathra.
“Club members were in the final stages of planning a stall at the Rotary Markets to showcase their club and raise funds when news of the devastating effects of the fire became well known. It was suggested that the money raised this month be donated to the Tathra Bushfire Fund,” the spokesman said.
Club member, Jenny Troy said, “I think they are in more need of this money than us at the moment.”
Members gathered an array of pre-loved goods, plants, cakes and slices to sell on the day and despite threatening weather, assembled in high spirits to set up the stall and coax money from passersby.
The spokesman said they were overwhelmed by the response of the local community: “Not only were most of the goods purchased but many people also gave sizeable donations: More than $1000 was raised by the stall.”
They thanked the Narooma Rotary, club members and especially the community of Narooma for their wonderful generosity.
