Corunna celebration
Last Thursday, a crowd of just over 40 people gathered at Corunna to celebrate the completion of conservation works at the historic cemetery on the Old Highway, midway between Narooma and Tilba.

The work was organized by interested locals who formed a committee in August 2015 to conserve the deteriorating grave monuments.
Within a short period of time, this group had grown to 17, and they set about their plan to conserve the monuments, and researching the identity of those graves with no remaining legible inscriptions.
Their work has resulted in not only conservation, but also the erection of high-quality, innovative interpretive signage, with photos of the 1882 Wesleyan church, and actual sections of window frames from its 1914 renovation.
On the reverse side of the sign on three plaques is a list of those buried at the site, and a narrative about early life at Corunna, including a map of the surrounding properties with the names of the occupants identified for each.
There is a plaque with photos of several of those buried. The committee won a grant from the NSW Office of Environment and Heritage through its Heritage near Me program to enable the work, and this was supplemented by local donations.
Eurobodalla Shire Councillors Lindsay Brown, Phil Constable and James Thomson attended on Thursday with members of the Uniting Church Parish Council. Cr Brown spoke on behalf of Mayor Liz Innes and congratulated the committee. An important guest was Andrew Trump, of Heritage Near Me in Sydney, who said it was a wonderful grassroots example of conservation for future generations, and innovation in the recording of history. He considered it a most valuable project.

Crying out for babies and toddlers
The annual Baby and Toddler Expo is on once again at Moruya Riverside Park on Saturday April 28 from 10am-1pm.
This is a free event. There will be information stalls so families with babies (future or present) can meet local service providers and plenty of free entertainment for the kids.
You can have your baby seats checked for free or bring a teddy to the health tent for a free demonstration.
Bring your pre-loved baby clothes and swap them for new ones.
The expo has become a popular event.
Last year, I was totally amazed to see hundreds of parents pushing prams and all the pregnant women coming up to our info stall to pick up baby information bags.
It is a really great event to connect families to service providers.

Three cheers for Rotary road safety course
As a volunteer, I recently attended the Rotary Club-sponsored Rotary Youth Driver Awareness (RYDA) days at Moruya Racecourse.
These Road Safety programs are held annually for Year 11 students at Narooma, Batemans Bay, Broulee and Moruya high schools. This year, over two days, 280 students attended this wonderful program. In the 11 years this program has been operating in our area, more than 2000 students have attended.
What a great experience this must be for our students, who mostly, are learning to drive, or have their P plates. Subjects covered by experienced presenters included Risk Awareness, Self Control, Speaking Up, Crash Factors, Speed and Stopping/Braking distances, to name a few. Congratulations to the Rotarians who ensured our learner and P-plate drivers make roads safer.
