Federal Infrastructure and Transport Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack said the Princes Highway and Hector McWilliam Drive intersection would be upgraded. The intersection has been the site of many serious accidents.
Mr McCormack said the intersection of George Bass Drive and Tomakin Road, which has also been the scene of many accidents, would also be improved and the highway intersection with Beach Road, Batemans Bay, upgraded.
Gilmore MP Ann Sudmalis welcomed the grants: “About $3.5 million will be spent improving the intersection of George Bass Drive and Tomakin Road by building a roundabout and modifying the intersection of George Bass Drive and Ainslie Parade; $3 million will be invested in three intersections at Batemans Bay, including Beach Road and the Princes Highway, Beach Road and Perry Street and Beach Road and Orient Street.”
Eurobodalla Mayor Liz Innes welcomed the funding and said Ms Sudmalis had been a strong advocate for the shire. “It is fantastic the Australian Government continues to support local councils with funding for key transport infrastructure,” she said. The works are fully funded by the Australian Government and are all expected to start by the end the year.
