President Rose Farrington commenced the day’s procedures by welcoming all to a delightful morning tea, followed by everyone gathering on the green for a celebratory photo.

Special guests included Far South Coast District president Margaret Naylor and Secretary Joan Roche.

Irene Sutton, a Bermagui member caused great hilarity, when she arrived dressed in her old bowls uniform. She looked a treat!

After a game of bowls, everyone entered the club dining room, which was beautifully decorated by the committee in a diamond /silver and green and gold theme.

During lunch toasts were made in recognition of the contribution made by both members of the club and community.

Vice president Doreen proposed a toast to president Rose and presented her a photo book prepared by member Leslie Willmouth.

The book gave a wonderful pictorial overview of the past 60 years and it was amazing to see so many of the photos labelled with all the names of past members right back to 1958.

The book will become a part of the club’s archives and is really treasured.

Secretary Marg Downey gave the club a lovely dressed doll, named Trixie to be our new updated mascot. She will take pride of place cheering on teams at special games.

Other toasts were made to the district president, to our patron June Everett, to all visitors who included two members from each of our surrounding district clubs, to the Tuross Head Country Club personnel, especially the green keepers, and to the Men’s Bowling Club who support us in so many ways.

Denise Lidbury, one of our very talented bowlers, was our very entertaining special guest speaker, who told everyone of major events in our history as well as funny stories in her own bowling career.

A magnificent cake was cut by our district president Margaret and president Rose, and then Tuross ladies entertained the audience with two special ‘bowls songs’, which were written by previous members and have been performed over the years.

It was a very happy day, paying honour to our past member guests who did so much to establish a strong club.

Memorabilia and photos from days gone by gave people lots to talk about.

The day concluded with the drawing of a raffle of a magnificent candle-wicked quilt made by our vice president Doreen.

The club, while small in number but large in enthusiasm and talent, looks forward to the next 60 years.
