The High Heelers took the field first against the newly formed Eden/Merimbula side and after winning the toss elected to receive the kick off.
After only a few minutes of play, Eden/Merimbula were able to slip through the Heelers defence through speedster Tamika Millard and score under the posts and with a successful conversion the Bombala girls found themselves down 6-0.
However it wouldn’t be long until the High Heelers were able to hit back through a set play getting the ball to Sam Stewart to score out wide. With an unsuccessful conversion the High Heelers were down 6-4.
The next try would come to Maree Coates who on the back of a penalty weaved her way through the opposition’s defence and scored a classy try under the posts. After successfully converting her own try, the Bombala girls were in front 10-6 and this was how the first half score would end.
The second half of the game was a half of defence with both teams putting in big efforts to hold each other out. The minutes on the clock wound down, and the final score of the game would be 10-6 in Bombala’s favour after a very hard fought game.
Points this week were awarded as; 3 points to Georgie Clarke for her solid defensive efforts, 2 points went to captain Maree Coates (sponsored by Southern Stockyards and Fencing) for her all round dominant game and 1 point was awarded to Monique Perkins (sponsored by Fortitude Physiotherapy) for her ability to create attacking opportunities for the High Heelers all game.
Players player this week was shared between four girls; Sam Stewart, Kayley Keavey, Maree Coates and Georgie Clarke.
In first grade, Bombala Blue Heelers took on the Merimbula/Pambula Bulldogs in what was going to be a close game from the outset.
The Mer/Pam boys took early points and led 6-0 after only 5 minutes of play, however it wouldn't be long before Bombala hit back with a try of their own to Boro Navori out wide and with a successful conversion to Wame, the score was locked at 6 all.
After 10 minutes of tough play, Bombala were able to find the line again through a try to Murray Jackson who went from dummy half to crash over and with another successful conversion the boys led 12-6. T
he next try was to the Mer/Pam boys who were able to level the scores at 12 all and this would be how the score would end for the first half.
The second half started well for the Bombala boys with a try after only 1 minute of play to speedster Alex Rosten and with another successful conversion to Wame the boys were back in the lead 18-12. However this lead didn’t last long after a try just minutes later to the Mer/Pam side locked the scores up again at 18-all.
With another try, the Mer/Pam boys were able to take the lead for the second time in the game, but with an unsuccessful conversion were only able to extend the lead by 4 points, leading 22-18.
In the 60th minute, a great run and offload from Wame saw Malcolm Stone score just wide of the posts, and with a successful conversion, the Heelers were back in the lead 24-22. This lead wasn't to last long however, as the Mer/Pam Bulldogs hit back with a try of their own and with a successful conversion were now leading the Bombala boys 28-24.
With the clock winding down, the Bombala boys dug deep in defence to hold off the Mer/Pam boys, and after receiving the ball back were able to score one last try through Alex Rosten and with another successful conversion to Wame, the Bombala boys were able to secure their second win of the season, running out winners 30-28 in what was a very close game.
Points this week were; 3 points and players player, Elvis Tui (sponsored by Clear Cut Electrical) for his dominant attacking and defensive game, 2 points went to Alex Rosten (sponsored by the Delegate Hotel) for his safety at fullback and elusive running game and 1 point went to Luke Ingram (sponsored by P&B Joseph) for his solid defensive efforts and strong running game.
