Bob PD fooled the Goose (which is not too hard to do) and others but sent 35 bowlers on their way for the last time under Monday’s clouded skies and the strong at times usual swirling. The winners were again decided by secret ends and on 11 points in a countback had Clive KV, Pat, Ron, Jim or Harold and Dipper Ron winning from the runners-up in the Goose, Big Boy Tony and Spunky Brian. Adam’s son Ken scored the first resting toucher, the $100 jackpot stayed in the pot. Islander Ron was the only wrong bias sinner while the raffle prizes went to violin playing comic’s son Ken, Garry L-rentacar (twice) sending it round again for Macedonian Illya and that Jim the Broker again.

Thursday’s milder conditions suited 32 bowlers organised by Leigh Roy that had the highest winning margin deciding the winners on 15 in Bluey Ralph and gospeller Bob from the runners-up on 13 in Hookara Wort and the Punter couple Alan and Judy while the resting toucher went to Jan Smith but the $100 jackpot stayed in the pot. John 5-er-heaven and Lee Hoad-ain’t were the only wrong bias sinners while the raffle prizes went to organiser Dine-back Streamer (2) sending it round again for Hottie Jones, Account Cartwright, Scarf-man Jack (2) sending it on for the violin playing comic’s son Ken and John Verrell.

The final of the Major Singles Championship between Buzz Saw and Shark Finn has been delayed and will be played on Tuesday this week. The noticeboard has the sheet out for the Major Pairs with names down please for next week-end’s start.

Last Tuesday’s social bowlers enjoyed another autumn morning as two rinks of triples and two pairs games were played. Close to home on rink one Maureen Findlay teamed up with Marilyn Thomson and skip Jean Vos for a game which was close early on, just one ahead after nine ends against Clare Cork, Denise Holman and Barb McNamara.

Then, Jean’s team gradually increased their advantage to win by a comfortable margin. They were also drawn for the lucky rink prize to cap off a good morning. Our raffle winner was Sue Wales, with thanks to Rapley’s Meats. Club Triples: Entry sheet is on the ladies noticeboard.

With the end of the Pennant Season attention has now turned to Club Championships. The first round of the Major Singles has started with the highlights being good wins to new members and some epic struggles. Three new club members had wins including two players who were playing their first matches in this format of the game! Des Jackson demonstrated his growing ability in the sport with a very close win over Jim Madden. The scores were close throughout with Jackson’s ability to consistently play draw bowls the difference. The players were never more than 5 shots apart and the lead changed several times. Jackson looked home when he went to a 29–25 lead. Madden picked up three shots to get within a shot but Jackson was able to hold steady to win 31–28.

Col Fletcher, another newcomer to the sport, had an easier day as found his opponent, Andrew Farrington, right off his game. Nevertheless, Fletcher showed he was aware of the tactics of the singles format in recording a 31–8 victory. The other new club member to win was Peter Wood. Though new to Tuross, Wood is no newcomer to the sport and he showed this in a convincing win over Lou Kozlik. Wood had the game in his grasp when he led 28–6 but, to Kozlik’s credit, he really made Wood fight for the final 3 shots. Kozlik won six of the next 9 ends before Wood won 31–17.

Julian Penny and Peter Bird took 43 ends of very interesting bowls before a winner was decided. Bird dominated the early part of the game and looked in control when he led 21–9. Penny then slowly turned the game around. He won 13 of the next 14 ends to grab the lead 26–22. Bird then steadied to narrow the gap and he seemed to have the momentum when he moved to a 30–29 advantage. Penny then played two wonderful bowls to close out a 31–30 win on the 43rd end!

Ron Cox and Ian Wratten played a game that featured swinging fortunes. Cox dominated early, racing to a 17–4 lead before Wratten took over to grab a 19–17 advantage! It was then Cox’s turn and he moved to a 24–19 lead before the two traded the ends before Cox managed to prevail 31–25.

Alan McLeod had to hold off a determined finish from Alf Winch before winning their clash 31–25. Mcleod had the upper hand for much of the game and looked home at 28–19. Winch made him struggle for the last 3 shots winning 5 of the next 8 ends.

John Fahey and Peter Macdonald had a great battle in their clash. The scores fluctuated throughout. After 23 ends they were locked at 17-all before Fahey gradually asserted himself, winning 31-24. 

Another beautiful day on the South Coast, with 40 bowlers on seven rinks.

Winners on lowest winning score Alan Chisholm, Rod Holman, and Peter Jones defeated Don Caldwell, Greg Riley and Greg Ryan with runners up being Kevin Mitchell, Laurie Hardingham. 

Pennants Grade 4

Had a big 9-1 win over Tomakin, well done lads. The Pennants season is now finished for both Narooma sides.

Saturday Men’s Social

Sixteen bowlers on three rinks with lucky rink winners being Gary Evans, Paul Read, and John Downie 25-17 over Tony Fryer, Nev Butt, and John Scott.

Sunday Mixed Social

Twenty bowlers on four rinks with the lucky rink winners being Barry Lymbery, Sue Bender, and Clare Cork defeating Coral Read, Pat Wood, and Jean Vos 23-13.

Men’s Major Singles

Keith Bowater had a close win over Jay Breust 31-28, Greg Ryan defeated a gallant Rod Holman 31-20.

The final will be played next Sunday, April 29 between Keith Bowater and Greg Ryan.

F.S.C.D.W.B.A. held their Senior and Open Fours Championship final on Friday 20th April at Bodalla W.B.C. Spectators witnessed some great bowls, and many thanks to Bodalla for allowing us to use their greens.

The winners in the Senior Fours from Malua Bay were lead Gay Biggs,second Helen Rees,third Alison Innes and Skip Pat Bill. Open Fours winners from Tuross Head were lead Averial Cox,second Rose Farrington,third Sue Fahey and Skip Denise Lidbury.​
