His poster is one of 19 to be named as a finalist in the ‘Say No to Bullying’ poster competition.
Miles, 11, made the poster at the prompting of his teacher.
“Our teacher said that were were going to make a poster, so I decided to make a poster of a girl under an umbrella, where the rain is bad words,” he said.
“Then there’s a little mouse that comes out of a hole, and says good words to make her happy.”
Kaleb’s poster idea obviously caught the attention of the national judges, but he said there wasn’t any big influence behind his idea.
“I just got it from my head,” he said.
This is the fifth year the competition has run, and it helps bring attention to one of the most serious problems in the schoolyard.
According to Kid’s Help Line, one in four Australian students suffers from some form of bullying on a daily basis. That number is expected to rise with the increase in technology.
Kaleb has advice for anyone who sees someone being bullied.
“You can stand in between them and tell the bully to go away,” he said. “If they don’t, go tell the teacher and let them deal with it.
“Anyone can stand up to a bully.”
