Club publicity officer Kerrie Kozman said it all started back in 1978 when a small group of women came together to pursue common interests: “Now we have about 50 members. We meet on the fourth Friday each month.”
Ms Kozman said VIEW Club would celebrate 40 years in Narooma with a two-course lunch, drinks and raffles and entertainment at the Narooma Golf Club, from 11am, on Friday, June 22.
“New members are welcome,” Ms Kozman said.
“It’s a great way to meet people, get involved in the community, and hear some interesting talks along the way.”
Ms Kozman is speaking from experience after retiring to Narooma from Canberra a couple of years back, she wanted to be more involved in the community.
“I looked it up on the web: ‘clubs to join in Narooma’,” she said.
Ms Kozman said the club had a speaker each month, and the topics ranged far and wide.
“We had a retired radiologist who talked on radiation poisoning –that had a big turnout; the young lady from Georgie’s, the jeweler, who has won awards internationally; and the fire brigade gave us a run down on the Tathra fire.”
Ms Kozman said some of the long-time club members new just about everyone and could always find an captivating speaker. They could also help with other interests: “they can always put you in contact with someone who knows more”.
She said VIEW Club Narooma sponsors students through The Smith Family’s Learning for Life program: “Kids from disadvantaged families that can’t afford a school trip we pitched in to help with that.”
“We raise money through our lunches – a percentage goes to the program – and fundraising like selling books at the Dalmeny markets.”
To join in the 40th party, RSVP to Carlien Donnon 44768693 or Helen Hayes 44768086 by June 15.
