That KV man Clive organised 32 bowlers in cool mainly fine Monday conditions and with the highest winning margin of 18 deciding the winners in Graham or Brett, Bluey Ralph and gospeller Bob from the runners-up on 11 in Account Cartwright, Roy Faulkiner and Emberly Boot-spot while Pom Kennedy scored the first and only resting toucher but the $229 jackpot was not won. With the KV man still in charge of 28 Thursday bowlers depleted by the rain-delayed men’s and women’s championship pairs games, Clive organised “secret ends” as the game decider and with 2 groups on 11 points the winners on countback were Tom’s boy Ken, Peter the Pom and Graham or Brett from the runners-up in Marg Joiner, visitor Paul Wills and Lyn Dunrod. The resting toucher naturally to the organiser but the $208 jackpot stayed in the pot. Ex.PM Neil. Punter Alan and Towelling Lewis were the wrong bias sinners while the raffle prizes went to John Ver-heaven, Terry, Scarf-man Jack, Dine-back Brooker, Mayoress Olwyn and cobber Dudley.
Presentations were made by president Shark Finn of monies raised in our annual Australia Day charity bowls to Kath Smith receiving on behalf of the Moruya District Hospital Auxiliary and club member Illya Naumoski on behalf of Marine Rescue Narooma. Members were thanked by both receivers together with descriptions of how our donations are used.
In the rain delayed 1st round match of the major pairs played on Thursday Snoopy Leigh and Emberley Boot-print were victorious over Shark Finn and Garry L-rentacar after a 4-all score at the 4th end. Both the Lees got away to lead 14/5 at the 11th, 15/10 at the 15th and 20/10 at the 18th end but a 4/1 finish by Finn and Garry was not enough, going down 21/14 at the 21st. In the semi-final round Punter Alan and Cobber Dudley were up against Sienna Don and Chef Keith getting away early to lead 8/3 at the 7th before being tied up 9-all at the 11th, then playing catch-up for the rest of the match getting to 15/17 at the 19th and going down 20/16 at the 21st end. In the other semi-final match Snoopy and Emberley played Towelling Lewis and Hottie Smith who led all through the game 9/1 at the 6th, 20/6 at the 15th where they rested long enough to win 20/18 at the 21st. Come along next Sunday for the final between 2 fine teams in the 2 Lees and a Hot Towel.

NSSC Classic Pairs 2018
Teams of bowlers from all around NSW, the ACT and Victoria played six rounds of pairs to try and win the big money on offer in the NSSC Classic Pairs. The tournament was a huge success with only four teams going into the final round undefeated and, of these, only one team remained undefeated at the end of play, showing the closeness of the competition. The winners were Irish International, Shane Lennard from Warilla and former Australian and NSW representative Shane Garvey (skip) from Wisemans Park, Wollongong City, who were always in the picture and took first place, winning all six of their matches with an overall winning margin of 84 shots. Second place went to Kel Duncomb from Tura Beach and Phil Burns (skip) from Tathra with five wins and a draw and a 55 shot margin. Chris Pollock from Moruya and current NSW under-25 player, Jay Breust (skip) from Narooma, finished third with five wins and a 54 shot margin followed by Phil Reynolds from Corrimal and former NSW Junior Jordan Taylor (skip) from Wisemans Park with five wins and a 52 shot margin. Fifth place went to Mark West from Moruya and Jason Hossack (skip) from Bodalla with five wins and a 32 shot margin. Well done to all the teams who helped make the tournament so competitive. We look forward to seeing you back next year.
A tournament of the size of the Classic Pairs could not be held without the generous sponsorship of the Narooma Sporting and Services Club Group and their sponsorship is much appreciated. The assistance of Pam, Merrie and Sue who did all the work in the background helped to make the tournament run smoothly. Thanks to the umpires for their diligent service and the hard-working ladies from the Narooma Women's Bowling Club for providing afternoon sustenance for the players. Thanks again to the Women's Bowling Club and also to Col, Neville and Allan and Dawn Kenny who provided the succulent Rapley Midtown Quality Meat's hamburgers and steak sandwiches and salads to feed the grateful bowlers. Thank you to the NSSC office and bar staff who catered for all the needs of the bowlers. In particular, a big thank you to Rob and the very able greens staff for producing the greens in such great order.
Social Bowls Winners’ Circle
We had four rinks of pairs on Saturday and the Maggsy's Draw of lucky rinks saw Darryl Goodridge and Kevvie Cullen (skip) take first prize with a 20-16 win against Tony Fryer and Michael Knight (skip) after leading 10-8 after 11 ends.
On Sunday we had two rinks of triples and two rinks of pairs enjoying the Joe's Special action. The winning team was decided by highest winning score and that team was Darryl Goodridge and Bruce Rapkins (skip) who led 9-8 after 11 ends and won the remaining ends to take the match 23-8 against Betty Greenshields and Pat Wood (skip). Second place went to Clare Cork, Sue Bender and Peter Bland (skip) who were down 11-12 after 11 ends before they got their eye in to take the match 23-16 against Coral Read, Graeme Smith and Barry Lymbery (skip).
Narooma Women
No social bowls for last Tuesday due to the Classic Pairs being held, however things should return to normal this week.
The ladies club triples commenced on Thursday and the first match played was Leila Gosper (sub. for Marg Naylor), Sue Wales and Marilyn Thomson and Jan Rapkins, Barb McNamara and Lorraine Mitchell. Marilyn's team gained a handy lead early on and went on to win the match, despite a late push by Lorraine and her girls, moving through to round two. Friday's matches saw Leila Gosper, Sue Wales and Marilyn Thomson drawn against Denise Holman, Gail Palmer and Gail Riley. Continuing their good form, Leila, Sue and Marilyn kept up the pressure to win well and will now play in the final tomorrow. In the other game Mavis Hardy, Pat Wood and Bev Bowater played against Sue Bender, Pam Grant and Sandra Breust. Bev took the early lead with Pat Wood playing some amazing shots, then Sandra caught up. A close, hard fought match then ensued with scores level at 12-all, 14-all and 15-all, then Sandra's team gained the late advantage going on to win the match and a finals spot. Results next week.
