On Sunday, residents can bring their weeds in a bag to the Eurobodalla Council stall at the Narooma Rotary Markets.
Staff from the council’s environment team will be available to answer any questions about weeds or sustainable gardening and to hand over the native plants.
The council’s Natural Resource Officer Emma Patyus said a lot of resources were invested in removing weeds from reserves.
“We have been very active in the Narooma area in recent months, removing weeds like Asparagus fern, Cotoneaster, spider plant, Bitou bush and African daisy,” she said.
“The plant swap initiative complements our work in the field by encouraging residents get rid of weeds from their gardens too.
“By working on this together we can beat the weeds by reducing seed sources across everyone’s land and reducing the chance of reinfestation.
“Replacing weeds with native plants in your garden provides so many benefits – they require less watering, attract native birds, bees and butterflies and will thrive in our local conditions.”
The plant swap will be held at 8.30am-1pm on Sunday, May 27 at the Narooma Rotary Markets at NATA Oval, behind the Narooma Visitor Centre.
