After much deliberation and the site for the treatment works was determined, works began on the installation of a sewerage scheme for Bodalla, nine years after the first meeting.
A spokesperson for Eurobodalla Shire Council said, the Bodalla sewerage scheme is being constructed under two separate contracts.
“The first contract covers installation of the pressure sewerage system within the village, that is, the individual household pump units and the sewer mains to collect and transport sewage to the treatment plant.
“The second contract manages construction of the sewage treatment plant with the same contractor Ted Wilson and Sons winning both the contracts through council’s competitive tendering process,” the spokesperson said.
The pressure sewerage system work was completed earlier this year with council saying it was not causing any delays.
The cause of the delay is in the construction of the sewerage treatment plant which council saying it is almost complete.
“However, council has identified some issues with the contractor’s work that are critical to the treatment plant performance,” a council spokesperson said.
“These need to be rectified before council can allow the treatment plant to accept flows of sewage.
“While these issues will not be difficult or time consuming to rectify, they must be done so that council can be certain the treatment plant is capable of treating the sewage to the level required for safe discharge to the environment.
“It is regrettable that works have subsequently fallen behind schedule, but council is working hard to resolve these issues with the contractor in accordance with the contract.
“All household pump units and sewer rising mains have been constructed, tested and commissioned. Connection to the pump units will start once the treatment plant is ready to receive flows.
“We would have liked to provide more certainty to the community by now about the sewage connection time frames.
“However, until the issues are resolved to the extent that progress at the treatment plant can restart, council cannot provide any further clarity on when the treatment plant will be able to accept sewage flows.
“Bodalla property owners can expect a letter from council soon explaining the situation, and a subsequent letter will be sent once council has further certainty on connection dates.”
