The Group 16 Rugby League Narooma Devils’ great form from last week’s game against Bombala didn’t carry over this week with First Grade going down 34-24 to the Merimbula-Pambula Bulldogs at Pambula last Saturday.

After the Bulldogs got away to an 8-0 lead, the Devils fought back to go into the break leading 12-8. Shortly after half-time centre Ali Elmasri was sin-binned for a minor offence which led to two tries to the locals and from there on it was a game of catch-up for the Devils. The boys didn’t produce the grit they showed last week and the ever-improving Merimbula-Pambula took advantage to score a good win.
Best for the Devils were Ryan Norris, Lachlan Carey, Scott Curry and youngsters Blake Cavanagh and Jackson Kelly, while tries were scored by Ryan Norris (2), Mat Parsons and Scott Curry.
The Reserves were a bit short of numbers but played well only to be beaten 32-30 by a last-minute try to the Bulldogs. A number of the U18s played up and did a great job, but with a few more on the bench the Devils would have got there. Merv Naylor (2), Clyde Parsons and James Streater were among the try-scorers with Clyde kicking six goals.
The League Tag girls struggled on the day with thoughts of Lilly Bennett’s injury last week still fresh in their minds and lost to a talented Bulldogs-Eden team 36-0. They are bound to bounce back to form soon. Lilly is now home from hospital and in good spirits and we wish her a speedy recovery. Best for the She-Devils were Hayley Talanoa, Cat Hardy, Kira Campbell and Jody Pitt.
The U18s also went down in a nail-biter, losing 28-24. They trailed at the break but came back into form in the second half to just miss out. Tryscorers for the 18s were Mat Parsons (2), Blake Zideluns and Connor Martin. This team has a heap of potential and will learn from this defeat.
Next week the Devils play Bega Roosters at Bega in all grades starting at 11am.
