According to the Bureau, strong gusty winds averaging 60 to 70 km/h, with peak gusts in excess of 90 km/h, are possible
A complex low over the Tasman Sea is directing a vigorous westerly airstream over parts of NSW.
Winds are expected to funnel through the coastal valleys in the Hunter and Illawarra. Winds will tend southerly along the coast in the late evening and into Monday as a wind change moves up the coast.
Locations which may be affected include Newcastle, Gosford, Sydney, Wollongong, Nowra and Batemans Bay.
A wind gust of 80 km/h was observed at Bellambi weather station in the Illawarra at 8.30am on Sunday.
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
- Move vehicles under cover or away from trees.
- Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.
- Keep at least eight metres away from fallen power lines or objects that may be energised, such as fences.
- Report fallen power lines to either Ausgrid on 131 388, or Endeavour Energy on 131 003 or Essential Energy on 132 080, as shown on your power bill.
