A field of 111 players teed off in ever-deteriorating conditions in the July Monthly Medal and the first qualifying round for the Captain's Trophy, as was clearly reflected in the disparate DSR of 72/74. A Grade was taken out by Richard Goodridge with 71 net off his handicap of 9 on countback from Bob Piper, with Michael Turner one shot further back in third place. In B Grade Kathleen Roberts recorded the best score of the day with 70 net off her handicap of 22, one better than Andrew Vormeulen and two better than Michael Commins.

In C Grade Ian Lowe continued his good form with 71 net off his handicap of 31 to win by one shot from Jason Davis. Geoff Broadfoot took the third placing with 74 net. The nearest-the-pin winners were Bill Durnan on 3, Robert Ackling on 9, Scott Ker on 14 and Neil Robertson on 17, while the ball competition went down to all on 77 net.

An unusually large number of four players tied for the Monthly Medal with 71 net but the countback favoured Andrew Vormeulen over the three others.
