Milk: The River of Life exhibition opened at the Moruya Museum on Saturday, and Moruya and District Historical Society president Rob Lees said it was gratifying to have so many dairy farmers turn up.
“They all found out through word of mouth – one farmer chatting with the next,” Mr Lees said.
Ordinarily the museum relied on social media to promote shows, but Mr Lees said the bush-telegraph promotion was in keeping with the subject: “This was a more of a niche exhibition … A lot of the exhibits go back generations, just like with the Heffernans, who were here for our opening.”
“It was a very social event; for many it was an opportunity to catch up with friends and family they hadn’t seen in years.”
The exhibition runs until August 17 and showcases historic dairy items dating from early settlers Francis Flanagan and John Hawdon through to modern times. More: www.mdhs.org.au
