Some teams finished with a bang, some with a whimper, but a number of Narooma teams will find themselves playing semi-finals next week.
The Narooma Comets continued their domination of the Inters 1 competition with a hard fought win over the Tuross Twilight.
The girls started a little slowly and found themselves down by a couple of goals at half time.
The third quarter saw the Narooma girls increase the pace and intensity of their attack to finish up by four goals at three-quarter time. Luka Hutcheson and Leah Westoll combined well under the hoop and around the shooting circle.
Leah offloaded the ball well to Luka to improve their shooting position in the windy conditions. Leah finished the third quarter with five goal assists.
Allie-Mae Cook dominated the middle of the court in general play, and directed the attack well, while Angie Puglisi was again a beast in defence.
The Comets have finished the year on top of the table and will play next week in the major semi-final.
In other games, the Narooma Nightflames finished the season with an uncharacteristic 33-31 loss to the Barrelling Waves. The Narooma girls finished second on the ladder and will play the Waves again next week for a spot in the grand final.
In the under 12s, the Narooma Sapphires defeated the Hot Chilli Peppers 26-6 to
finish the season with some momentum going into next week’s semi-final against the Surging Waves.
In the under 11s, the Narooma Supernovas went down 24-5 against St Peters. The girls missed the semis this year, but I’m sure they will be back bigger and better next season.
In the under 10s, the Narooma Shooting Stars defeated the Red Hot Peppers 18-0 to sure up fourth spot on the ladder, and a semi-final next week against the Mexican Waves.
Narooma has four teams playing in the semis next week which is a great effort for such a young club.
In other news, the Narooma Netball club has its AGM coming up in September and we need new volunteers to run the club.
The vast majority of the current committee has been running the club for many years, and it is time for some parents whose kids are in the younger age groups to step up and get involved.
Without a committee the club will cease to exist, so if you want your daughter to play netball you need to get involved.
I am talking to fathers as well. Just because netball is played by ladies doesn’t mean that dads cannot be involved. Deon Café has been an integral part of the Narooma coaching staff for many years, and Steve Hutcheson has been on the committee for the last two seasons.
Granted he doesn’t do much, but he is still there in case we need a jar opened or for some light comic relief. So please consider getting involved in the club.
