He is now on his fourth visit to Narooma and has introduced us to many of his musical friends.
On Saturday, September 15, he will bring Thomas Azoury, on clarinet and Leigh Harrold, pm piano.
They will play a concerto for two clarinets and piano by Mendelssohn; a Debussy Rhapsody for clarinet and piano; a sonata by Leonard Bernstein, and a piece for two clarinets by Richard Rodney Bennett.
Dimitri, born in New York but now living in Switzerland, began studying the piano at six years of age, before taking up the clarinet.
On entering the Conservatory of Lucerne, he continued his studies with Giambattista Sisini.
Dimitri has performed as a soloist and a chamber musician with many major orchestras and distinguished artists, including his father Vladimir and brother Vovka.
In addition, Dimitri has recorded very many CDs and broadcast on radio in Spain, France, Switzerland and Germany.
He has given master classes in Australia, Iceland, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, Norway, Romania, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Thailand and the USA.
Dimitri not only plays classical music, but also music by the contemporary composer, Peter Maxwell.
Thomas Azoury took a Bachelor of Music at the ANU under the renowned clarinettist Alan Vivian.
He has continued his studies in both piano and clarinet at ANAM, Melbourne, where he has performed with the Melbourne Chamber Orchestra.
In addition to his classical career, he is fascinated by Dixieland Jazz and continues to perform both genres throughout the ACT and NSW.
When not practising, he has a keen interest in judo and was awarded his first-degree black belt in 2017.
Leigh Harrod is a musician with a rare talent and intelligence, whose magical touch with Mozart makes every phrase glow with a radiant intensity.
Born in South Australia, Leigh has performed widely throughout Europe, North America, Africa and Australia, both as a soloist and a chamber musician.
Having made a reputation as an associate artist with many other world-renowned performers, he has recorded CD’s, given talks and held masterclasses.
He holds two University medals, one for Music, the other for Applied Science.
Saturday’s concert offers a delightful programme, starting at 2:30 pm at St Paul’s Church.
