Guests from as far as Sydney and Eden travelled to attend the Billy's Gift Gala Ball for World Suicide Prevention Day. Comedian Dane Simpson was master of ceremonies for the evening; she kept the 174 guests laughing. People danced the night away with Ronald Callaghan and band; Mark Rote, Phil Williams and Te Otinga. A highlight was Joe Brierley and Barry Fernando’s own compositions about their cultural identity as Aboriginal men. Held at the Batemans Bay Soldiers Club on Saturday September 8, the event was organised by a small group of volunteers who work hard through the year to raise awareness and education around suicide. Fundraising donations from shire artists and business, and the ACT Brumbies, raised money for local suicide-prevention projects.
