Councillor Rob Pollock is the Eurobodalla Shire Council’s new Deputy Mayor, elected by seven votes to two on Tuesday.

At the same meeting, the council moved that the term of Deputy Mayor be extended from one year to two. Cr Pollock takes the position from Cr Anthony Mayne, who has been Deputy Mayor for the past two years. Cr Mayne was also the only other candidate for this term.
A bid for the public access session, which immediately precedes Eurobodalla Shire Council meetings, to be live webcast was deferred at the September 25 council meeting.

The session allows people to present to the council on topics not on the council meeting agenda. The public forum and meeting itself are webcast.
The Office of Local Government does not require the council to hold a public access session. However, the office will soon update its code of meeting practice. Some councillors were concerned changing webcasting arrangements now would lead to double handling when the new guidelines were released.
The Eurobodalla Shire Council will thank NSW Forestry Corporation for a recent presentation on logging in Corunna State Forest – but some people feel anything but grateful.
John Ramsey, Joslyn Van Der Moolen and Lynne Freeman said they were concerned about Forestry Corporation logging practices, and want the council to help pressure the state government to reduce or halt logging in the area.
And speaker Peter Bernard expressed concern that few members of the public had attended one of the council’s drop-in sessions about the proposed southern water storage project. The council is pushing for a new dam to “drought proof” the shire, but it would come with a multi-million dollar price tag.
