The protest was organised by the Corunna Forest Protection Group (CFPG) who say they are frustrated after six months of negotiation have failed to stop Forestry Corporation logging in the area.
“Concerned citizens have been protesting daily,” a CFPG spokesman said.
He said trees which were as old as a hundred years, or more, were being felled, and Forestry Corporation had still not specified where the 300 hectare set-aside – for a sighted masked owl – were located.
He also said politicians had failed to respond to community concerns about logging operations at Corunna.
”It is clearly evident that huge areas have been extensive cleared, and huge amounts of fuel has been left on the ground; a potential fire hazard this summer,” the spokesman said.
