The revamped and expanded library will feature a new children’s area, reception, meeting room and creative space, as well as improved areas for staff.
A rear internal wall will be demolished to allow connectivity to the new Basil Sellers Exhibition Centre, under construction adjoining the library.
New furniture, shelving, signage, paint and carpet will complete the renovation.
The work is thanks to NSW Government and Australian Government funding for the combined Moruya Library redevelopment and arts centre project.
The council’s Manager of Community Development and Participation Kim Bush said the works would be worth the wait.
“We’ll be improving the overall layout and navigation of the library and it will have a wonderful fresh, new look,” Ms Bush said.
“The library itself will be 10 to 15 per cent bigger and will feature new zones that provide users with a more retail-like experience.”
Borrowing periods have been extended for patrons with items on loan from Moruya Library, however books can still be returned and borrowed at Narooma and Batemans Bay Libraries.
“We appreciate the patience and flexibility of our patrons during this really exciting period in the library’s development,” she said.
Moruya Library will reopen Monday, December 3.
The Basil Sellers Exhibition Centre is on track to open in February with its first exhibition, The Basil Sellers Art Prize.
