A slightly overcast day with in an easterly swell and a brisk northeaster saw in the first day of the season, with the first patrollers’ setting up the flags on the beach for swimmers and board riders.
Sunday, November 4 was a vista of pink, red and black, as the Narooma Surf Life Saving Club’s Nippers program began in earnest.
On the first day of the program, 190 Nippers registered for the upcoming season.
This year, the Nippers will be coordinated by Kristy Beecham and a team of age-group managers, administrators, uniform and merchandise officers and water safety volunteers.
The activities will be based on building confidence, team work and having fun.
There will be additional training after the two-hour program for those Nippers who are keen to compete.
The club commenced its in-house Bronze Medallion and Senior Resuscitation Certificate Course (SRC) on Tuesday, November 6.
It is designed to help bolster patrol numbers and encourage former Nippers to step up and become livesavers.
The Emergency Response Boatshed is also expected soon to be operational.
The walls of the facility are quickly building up and hopefully will be in place by mid–December.
Narooma is due to host the first surf boat carnival for the branch on Saturday, December 1.
The Nippers will have their first carnival for the season at Bermagui on Sunday, December 2.
The club is looking forward to another fun-filled season while – as a priority – keeping everyone safe on the beach.
